Billing Providers

The billing provider is the provider or business entity submitting the claim and represents the person or entity being reimbursed. The billing provider should be the entity contracted with the payer.

Create billing providers (EMR)

To create a billing provider:

  • Go to the EMR (e.g. emr.avonhealth.com)
  • Click on the hamburger menu on the top left corner > Settings > Insurance
  • Click “Create a billing provider”
  • Fill out the requisite information:
    • Type: Whether the billing provider is an individual or an organization.
    • First and Last Name: (Only applies if the billing provider is an individual) First and last name of billing provider individual.
    • Organization Name: (Only applies if the billing provider is an organization) Name of billing provider organization.
    • NPI number and tax ID: NPI number and tax ID of the billing provider. The tax ID must be the same tax ID given to the payer on the IRS W-9 form completed during contracting.
    • Address: Address of the billing provider
    • Default: Whether this billing provider should be set as the default billing provider. By default, all insurance claims and superbills will be populated with the default billing provider and can be changed as the user is completing the claim/superbill.
    • Usable By: Which medical centers can use this billing provider. If Usable By All is set to true, all medical centers can use the billing provider. Is Usable By All is set to false, only the listed medical centers can use the billing provider.
  • All information set is autosaved so click “Finish”

Edit or delete billing providers (EMR)

To edit or delete billing providers:

  • Go to the EMR (e.g. emr.avonhealth.com)
  • Click on the hamburger menu on the top left corner > Settings > Insurance
  • Click on the billing provider card that you want to edit/delete
  • If you want to edit, modify details of the billing provider as desired and click “Finish”
  • If you want to delete, click the “Delete” button in the lower righthand corner
